RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Two police officers are hurt and a suspect is dead. Now authorities are trying to figure out why a loan gunman started shooting near the Pentagon metro.
Investigators say 36 year-old John Patrick Bedell pulled a gun from his pocket and started shooting at a security checkpoint into the Pentagon.
Two officers were hit - they are expected to be ok.
There are signs the shooter had issues with the military and doubts about the facts behind 9-11.
Investigators are trying to figure out if a second person may have been involved. Terrorism is not suspected.
The two officers are at home and are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Since 9-11, metro passengers have not been able to directly enter the Pentagon.
The rail station and Pentagon transit centers will remain closed Friday so investigators can continue their work into this case.
Metro says trains will go through the Pentagon station, but will not pick up or drop off passengers.
