CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – The Fast and Friendly Convenience Store is open Thursday as usual. Police are still investigating a murder that happened there almost 3 years ago. Now they're releasing new details hoping to catch the killer.
"The evidence now would indicate to us that Mr. Anwar struggled with his attacker," said Chesterfield County Police Captain Terry Patterson.
Back in July of 2007, the owner of the store, Farooq Anwar, was shot and killed inside while working one night. The store is currently under new management but police still consider this an active case.
Security cameras are new additions to Fast and Friendly's for added employee safety ever since the murder happened almost 3 years ago. We went to Anwar's home to speak with his wife. She did not want to appear on camera but released the following statement:
"Farooq Anwar was a kind family man and a loving husband and father. He had a large circle of friends who loved him dearly. His customers described him as everybody's best friend. We remember him in our prayers everyday and grieve over him constantly. We will be grateful to anybody who can bring closure to this case.
"We as the police are still continuing to investigate this and it certainly remains at the top of one of our unsolved homicides," said Patterson.
