Chesterfield business permit changes possible

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WWBT)--Chesterfield County is considering a change to the permit process required for certain businesses.

Right now pawnshops, fortune tellers, massage parlors, adult businesses and nightclubs are approved through a police permit, based on a background check and the applicants' character, but the courts ruled the "character standard" to be unconstitutional.

Now the county may make a change.

Tonight there will be a public hearing during the Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss the issue.

The meeting starts at 6:30pm inside the Public Meeting Room, located at the Government Complex on Iron Bridge Road.
