Spacek pushes film investment

Posted by Shawn Maclauchlan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Oscar winner and Virginia resident Sissy Spacek made a special appearance at the General Assembly.

Spacek was the guest of Lt. Governor Bill Bolling.

She endorsed a plan to allow for tax incentives for production companies that want to make movies in Virginia.

Spacek, who starred in "Coal Miner's Daughter," which was filmed in Virginia, said that the Commonwealth is missing out on opportunities to bring business to the region.

"Crew members and they are just superb here in Virginia, this is a fantastic crew base. It is hard for them to leave their families and go up and set up places," said Spacek. "I'm excited about these tax incentives, I want to get us on the "short list."

The legislation has already passed in the senate and a house committee.
