RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police are investigating a brutal Valentine's Day attack at an apartment complex where a woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in her own home. So far no arrests have been made.
It happened at the Midlothian Village Apartments. Police stress this was not a random attack. They are looking for two men.
Police can't say the woman knew her attackers but that they're connected to someone she does know.
Katrina Pleasant says Midlothian Village is a rough complex and isn't surprised at all that a woman fell victim to a sexual assault and beating.
"I just try to stay in my house and mind my business. If I see anything, depending on what it is, debate who am I going to tell, what am I going to tell," said Pleasant.
Pleasant wasn't aware of the Valentine's Day attack. Police say when a woman answered a knock at her door at about 9 that morning, two men forced their way inside her apartment. Police say one man beat the woman, the other sexually assaulted her.
The victim was taken to VCU Medical Center. Police say this was not a random attack but the woman was targeted in connection with a domestic dispute.
Signs on the buildings warn that someone is watching the property. Pleasant would like to see more security though. She lives at Midlothian Village with her young son. He's her number one concern.
"It's been rough around here for a long time, and for me to be around here raising my son I feel they should work a little harder to keep down the violence here; monitor the people who come in and out," said Pleasant.
Police only have vague descriptions of the woman's attackers. If you have information that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
