First wave of rest areas to re-open this week

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Several of Virginia's rest areas will re-open later this week.

Four locations: Rural Retreat, Smyth, New Market, and Radford will re-open on Wednesday.

The stops were closed under former Governor Tim Kaine last year as a cost-saving measure.

But governor Bob McDonnell re-opened them, making good on a campaign promise.

Rest areas in eight other spots, including Dinwiddie and Goochland, will re-open by mid April.
