NBC12 Viewpoint: 2010 Olympic Winter Games

By Don Richards, NBC12 Regional Vice President and General Manager

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -  If all the snow and ice we have been getting isn't enough, this weekend brings an annual event that many of us avoid thinking about and actually dread.

Of course I am talking about it being the first Sunday after the end of the professional football season. What do we do now? Where do we channel our hopes and emotions?

Well, luckily it happens to be a special weekend for another reason… it's the Opening Weekend of the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver!

That's right. This weekend and for the next two full weeks your United States Olympic Team will compete in over 80 exciting winter sports games in beautiful Vancouver. All of it will be captured in breathtaking high definition television… right here on NBC12.

We've all endured some tough winter weather this year, and yes there is more on the way. But maybe it is nature's way of getting us ready to watch other people compete and challenge themselves in the snow… in Canada…where it belongs.

This weekend express your true feelings and say… Go USA!
