Ukrop's sold; Martin's will be open Sundays, sell alcohol

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The purchase of Ukrop's Super Markets by Giant-Carlisle is finalized.

The parent company of Giant-Carlisle, Ahold, announced Monday the acquisition of 25 Ukrop's stores is complete.

The stores will operate under the name Martin's.  They will be open on Sundays and sell beer and wine.

"Though the name on the front of the store will change later this spring, customers can expect to find the same friendly store associates including pharmacists," said Carlisle-Giant company president Rick Herring. "Will associates be available to carry customers' bags to their car if they would like? You bet they will!"

Ukrop's bakery and kitchen items will continue to be sold in the stores.

Giant-Carlisle is headquartered in Carlisle, Pa. and they have stores located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia under the names Giant and Martin's.
