Club Velvet loses its liquor license

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A Shockoe Bottom Strip Club will remain open, despite the fact that it has lost its liquor license.

This afternoon, a hearing officer from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board released its decision to revoke Club Velvet's liquor license.

The club was accused of various illegal activities including selling alcohol to minors, selling it after hours and being a place where pimps, prostitutes and drug users congregate.

Kevin Martingayle, the attorney for the club's owner Sam Moore, told NBC12 tonight that he was "disappointed" with the report that he describes as being "filled with flaws."

Club Velvet retains its liquor license during the appeal process and Martingayle said that Moore will continue to operate the business while he fights the decision.

The first stage of the appeal will be before the Commonwealth's ABC board. It can than move on into the courts system depending on the outcome.

We'll have much more at 11.
