Medical examiner confirms body from landfill was missing toddler

ROANOKE, VA (WWBT) - The Roanoke Police Department medical examiner's office has confirmed that the body found in the Smith Gap Landfill on January 27 is the body of 2-year-old Aveion Malik Lewis.

Police did say when the body was found a week ago that it was located in trash that came from Lewis' neighborhood.

The boy's stepfather, 24-year-old Brandon Lockett, has been charged with felony child neglect, improper disposal of a human body and obstruction of justice.

Lockett told authorities that three men abducted the boy from the family's home on Jan. 14. Police say there was no abduction and they believe the child was dead before authorities received a 911 call.

The investigation into Aveion's death continues.  Anyone with information should call the Roanoke Police Department at (540) 853-2212.
