HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -- We are heading into a very daunting time of the year: tax time. But, there is free help available for you, help that is going on right now.
For the next few months, more than 20 volunteers will be staffing the Human Services building in Henrico County, giving you free tax advice on how to get some extra money back.
The forms look like a puzzle that you just can't figure out and there are some ways to get even more money back than you think.
That's where volunteers like Rod Gordon come into play. "I think we are going to find our lobbies packed with people," says Gordon. "Families that have never walked through this door before meeting new people, seeing new faces."
Gordon and his team will help out low income families and people that meet the maximum income guidelines.
In a tough economy, you could get up up to $5,657 in extra income tax credits, extra cash in your hands, that many people don't know about. Better yet, the volunteers will help you, for free!
"Often times, we get expressions of surprise and joy. They had no idea they were entitles to this big of a refund," adds Gordon.
The Henrico office is on the Department of Social Services floor. It will be open on Tuesday and Thursday's from 4 to 8 p.m. in the evening until April 14. They will have another office open on Saturday's from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairfield Library on North Laburnum Avenue.
There are plenty of other locations too, all across the region.
"The only negative is that when people come in, you may have to wait!" adds Gordon.
It's a wait that may just be worth your time.
