Montpelier doctor charged with attempting to distribute oxycodone, hydrocodone

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) –    A Montpelier doctor who also practices medicine in Henrico County has been indicted on felony charges of attempting to distribute oxycodone and hydrocodone.

After a lengthy state police investigation, Dr. Virat Bakhshi was arrested Monday.

Bakhshi is also under investigation by the Virginia Medicine Board.

According to board documents, Bakhshi is accused of prescribing pain medications to patients he did not examine and controlled substances to patients he knew were abusing drugs or had become addicted.

The board will decide next month whether to suspend or revoke his license.
