CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT)--An update on the case against a Chesterfield father, whose 3-year-old girl shot herself with his gun.

Forty-one-year-old Marcus Mitchell appeared in general district court yesterday morning on a charge of recklessly leaving a loaded, unsecured gun near his daughter.

The judge moved the case to juvenile and domestic court. A new court date has yet to be set.

On Thanksgiving Day the toddler shot herself in the hand and has since recovered.
