VA sues companies in fatal building collapse

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The state is suing a general contractor and a construction company linked to a fatal building collapse in Chesterfield County.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry has filed lawsuits in Chesterfield County Circuit Court against McBar Industries Incorporated and E.C. Couch Builder Incorporated, asking that the court enforce citations the agency issued against both companies and collect a total of $146,000 in fines.

The September 10th, 2008, collapse of a two-story building in the Chester Village Green development killed 38-year-old worker Scott Giordano.

Separately, McBar Industries has filed a $2.7 million lawsuit against three subcontractors it hired to work on the project.
