ROANOKE, VA (WWBT) – A toddler, thought to be abducted, is now presumed dead. Two year old Aveion Lewis was the subject of an Amber Alert last week, after his stepfather called 911 and claimed the little boy was forcibly abducted.

The Roanoke city police department is focusing its attention on Aveion Lewis' step-father. They think that Brandon Lockett invented the entire elaborate story that explained the boy's disappearance.

Lockett, 24, of Roanoke, has been charged with felony child neglect, improper disposal of a human body, and obstruction of justice.

The police say that the inconsistent statements by Lockett have led them to believe that not only, is his story untrue, but that the little boy is dead. They think he has been since before the initial 911 call was made.

Not only did Lockett invent the elaborate story for the police, he shared it with the media as well. This is what he said last week:

"We ran upstairs and un-gagged her. They had her face down too. They had her hands behind her back and mouth gagged," said Lockett.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and they have begun to search the area outside the home hoping to find the body.

As a result of these new developments, Roanoke police officially called off their Amber Alert for Aveion.
