RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Millions of dollars have already been donated by you to help the people of Haiti.

Just 10 minutes after the call 12 volunteers arrived on Friday, the phone lines began lighting up. And that's no different than it's been for the past couple of days back at their office.

There has been overwhelming support at the Richmond American Red Cross office. Phones have been constantly ringing, keeping the men and women very busy.

People have been offering to downstate many items to the recovery effort, but the only thing the Red Cross really needs is money.

At last check, millions of dollars had already been donated to relief efforts by people all across the country using their cell phone. The Red Cross hopes that continues as people realize how badly the devastated nation needs help now, more than ever.

"People need food, people need water, people need shelter like temporary shelter and medical supplies," said Reggie Gordon of the American Red Cross, Richmond chapter. "So the money will be either used to purchase those goods or make sure that they are moved to a staging area that they can be distributed to the people who need them."
