Officer's actions ruled justified in Chesterfield shooting

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) The criminal and internal investigations into the Oct. 1 police officer-involved shooting of wanted suspect Thomas G. Wells have concluded and Special Prosecutor Will Jarvis of the Prince William County Office of Commonwealth's Attorney has determined the officer's actions were justified.

Two Chesterfield County Police officers and one U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent were part of a regional U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force who attempted to serve felony warrants for Well at his family's home. Wells exited the front door and brandished a firearm at the officers. A Chesterfield County Police officer shot and injured Wells.

The investigation concludes that the officer acted with "impressive discretion".

The involved officers have returned to full duty.
