CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. (AP) - Authorities say an unidentified driver stole a Green County Sheriff's Office cruiser and led police on a chase through several counties that ended in a shootout.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Frank Pyanoe says a driver was pulled over Friday afternoon and tried to run away. The suspect, who was not identified, then jumped into the squad car and took off.
Pyanoe says authorities chased the driver into Nelson and Albemarle counties. It finally ended when authorities used spike strips to disable the car.
Gunshots were then exchanged, though authorities provided few details. Pyanoe says no police officers were injured but did not say whether the suspect was shot. The suspect has not yet been arrested.
