RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) –  The sale of Ukrop's is still making headlines today. Ahold USA's Giant-Carlisle division will most likely rename the 25 stores Martin's Food Markets.

So we wanted to know more about what customers could expect. So we traveled to Waynesboro, Virginia today to check out a Martin's.

Giant-Carlisle operates Giant Food stores in Pennsylvania and dabbles in Martin's Food Markets south of the Mason Dixon Line. The Martins in Waynesboro opened about three years ago.

Martins and Ukrop's are like comparing apples and oranges. They're both well known grocery chains. Each with their own flavor.

Larry Wilson's been with the company for 13 years. He manages the Waynesboro store.

"Ukrop's we feel, was a great fit to our company....not only that we can learn from them but we can assimilate them very easily into our operation," Wilson said.

Both chains offer deals at the gas pump, but at Martin's, the gas pumps are at the store. Ukrop's has it's Fuel Perks program for discount gas at select stations in the Richmond area.

"I usually come here to get my gas. I feel like it's one of the best prices in the area really for gas," said Kathy Berrang, a Waynesboro resident who said she shops at Martins all the time.

John Miller is another Waynesboro Martin's shopper. "I like the coupon that you get for gas which I'm going to cash in on now. 50 cent a gallon which is not bad at all," he said.

The inside is a little bigger. There are prepared foods and a Carry Out Café. The donuts are made from scratch. There's a large seafood department.

Valued Customer Cards, at Martin's are known as Bonus Cards.

Martins are open seven days a week and they sell alcohol.

At Martin's you don't have to wait in-line to check out. And shoppers like Waynesboro's Tish Leadbetter tell us their favorite feature is the easy program. Which are scanners you can check out at the front of the store.

"So you scan your groceries as you're buying them," Leadbetter said. "Scan the bar codes in and it tells you the total as you're going along. You can get an information price if you want. You can take stuff off if you want."

A spokesperson told NBC 12 today Giant-Carlisle is interested in getting to know the Richmond market which means it could be several months before we know if any major changes like a new name and new store hours will be announced.
