Arrest made in Hillside Court shooting

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police made an arrest in the Hillside Court shooting Tuesday morning. The shooting happened around 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of Harwood Street and Rosecrest Avenue.

Police received a call for shots fired. When they responded, they found two males a block apart with gunshot wounds.

Richmond Police have arrested Jamaal Antonio Cotman, 21, of the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue in connection with Tuesday's shooting.

Cotman, who was shot during the incident, was charged with aggravated assault, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Prior to today's incident, Cotman also had three outstanding warrants for assault, trespassing and violating a protective order.

The Richmond Police Narcotics Unit is assisting the Major Crimes Unit in this investigation. It appears Cotman and his victim knew each other.

This investigation is ongoing and Richmond Police ask anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
