School bus accident in Dinwiddie County

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - A school bus carrying children overturned on Boisseau Road in Dinwiddie County just before 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Reports have at least 25 students plus the driver were on the bus, 12 suffered injuries. Seven were taken to Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg and another four were taken to John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell. One was taken to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

Police on the scene have alleged that the bus driver ran off the road after leaving Dinwiddie High School, over-corrected, swerved and the bus overturned into a ditch. It ended up on it's side and students were forced to leave the bus through the back emergency door.

The driver, Rae Cole, 35, has been charged with reckless driving.

A teacher called 911 to report the accident.
