Couple struck by car while mourning loss of granddaughter

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A family is mourning their second loss in a week. An elderly Midlothian woman was killed yesterday at the same intersection where last week her granddaughter died in a crash.

Henrico police say 74-year-old Ruth Bellio and her husband got out of their car to lay flowers at the site of their granddaughter's crash -- along Springfield road near Jones road in western Henrico County.

As the two crossed the street, police say a south bound traveling car ran into the couple's vehicle parked on the side of the road.

The striking vehicle then veered into the north bound lanes hitting Ruth and her husband. The accident ended with a third collision as the car then struck an incoming north bound SUV.

Police say Ruth died at the scene. Her husband was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the drivers of both vehicles were uninjured.
