CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – Three men are still on the run, after that shooting at the Meadowbrook Plaza -- on Hopkins Road. That gun fight involved an off-duty Richmond sheriff's deputy.

An eyewitness to the incident described it as a "shootout". Four men- including an off-duty Richmond sheriff's deputy, opened fire in broad daylight in that crowded shopping center.

Chesterfield police don't know what led to the incident....we have learned tonight that at one point it appeared the brawl was spawned out of an attempted robbery. The sheriff's deputy apparently faced off against three other men in a car. Shots were fired before the men in the car took off.

The deputy stayed to talk with police. Michelle Waddell was in the parking lot and witnessed the entire altercation and can't believe that no one was hurt.

"I thought it was fake at first, I thought they were playing around to get attention at first. Because they didn't look scared, they were confident. If you have a gun, it's not too good, and you are out shooting out in public, and I'm driving or anybody's driving through, the day before Thanksgiving when it was really busy. I mean the parking lot was filled with people," said Michelle.

The Richmond Sheriff's Department confirms that one of its deputies was involved in the shooting, but it did not reveal his identity.

Meanwhile Chesterfield police continue to investigate the situation and look for three men involved. If you have any information that would help call Chesterfield Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
