RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond café tackles a social cause: it creates jobs for people with disabilities. With the same commitment, now it has also tackled some critical violations it received on its last health inspection.

You'll get a positive vibe from the staff at Positive Vibe Café at 2825 Hathaway Road in Richmond. Said Executive Director Garth Larcen, "Out of 25 paid positions, 17 have either a cognitive or physical disability. Then we also have bartenders and servers that are all volunteers."

While serving award winning food, this café serves as job training for people with disabilities and gives some of them jobs. Said Larcen, "Know that every single penny that's spent here goes to make a real difference in someone's life. I see that everyday here."

Positive Vibe usually gets positive health inspections. But when they got 5 critical violations on their last inspection, Larcen added more checklists to make sure everything is done right. "We set some new procedures in place to make certain this does not happened again. It's a constant check and balance with all the action we have through here."

Larcen made sure food in the fridge is dated and stored properly, and the ice machine and meatslicer are cleaned frequently. All violations were corrected during the inspection.

In Hanover, Brick Oven Bistro at 139 Hill Carter Parkway had 8 critical violations. The report says employees handled ready-to-eat pizza with their bare hands. Violations were corrected during the inspection. The owner says a delivery arrived at the same time as the inspection, but staff has been retrained and the kitchen is kept very clean. A follow up report is not yet available.

In Henrico, Breaker's Sports Grille at 9127 West Broad Street had 4 critical violations. The report says tuna salad and chicken salad in the fridge were dated to be thrown out a week earlier. The manager tells us the salad was fresh but in a container with an old date on it and violations were corrected during the inspection. Breaker's received no critical violations in a follow up inspection.

This week's NBC 12 Hall of Fame award goes to Chipotle Mexican Grill at 13300 Rittenhouse Drive in Midlothian. The restaurant has earned perfect scores on every health inspection they've had since 2005.
