CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Police are looking for the burglar who struck a Chesterfield County home Monday morning, then came back to finish the job that night. It happened in the 2300 block of Traymore Road.
"They took my engagement ring," said victim Barbara Walker. "They took a special ring that my mother had given me for my 50th birthday and that probably can't be replaced."
The items were of sentimental value for Barbara and her husband, Jerry. She noticed them missing when she came home for lunch. But later that same night they heard a noise outside their home. The burglar had come back and was driving away in their car.
"I said this is a great opportunity to get the guy," Jerry said. "All the windows were up so we couldn't see in and the lights were off so we didn't recognize. I couldn't even see a shape."
The burglar stole the keys during the first break-in. Trying to get away, the crook backed into a tree almost running the couple over before speeding down the driveway.
"I was angry to the point of being crazy," Barbara said. "When I think, he could have pulled out a gun and shot me when I was sitting there screaming and waving my arms in my nightgown."
They can only imagine the suspect they nearly came face to face with and wonder who would be bold enough to commit the same crime twice.
The couple threw rocks and tree branches at their own car hoping to break the window and see the suspect before he or she got away. Unfortunately that didn't work. If you know anything about this incident you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
