Space shuttle Atlantis to fly with two VA natives

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL (WWBT) - Two Virginia natives will be on board the space shuttle Atlantis when it blasts off this afternoon.

One of them, former University of Richmond football star, Leland Melvin.

This is Melvin's second space flight.

He was a mission specialist on the shuttle Atlantis in February 2008.

Melvin will be joined by Robert Satcher.

He's from Hampton.

Forecasters say the weather will be great.

The mission will last 11 days so the crew will have Thanksgiving in space.

Blast off is set for 2:28 p.m.

At that time 100 space fans will be going high-tech writing on Twitter.

NASA's calling it their "tweet-up" this will put its mission out to a younger crowd.
