Kenya runners dominate SunTrust marathon

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - Downtown streets are back open following the friendliest marathon in America.

It's the 32nd annual SunTrust Richmond Marathon.

And it featured a record 15,723 runners.

Despite the chill in the air, they ran the grueling 26.2 miles

The course took runners right through the heart of Richmond and boasted beautiful river views.

Winner of the men's 8k was Elkanah Kibet of Kenya with a time of 22:47.

Nicholas Kurgat of Kenya finished the men's half marathon first with a time of 1:06:02.

And 2008 marathon champion Jynocel Basweti defended his title this year finishing the men's marathon first with a time of 2:18:28.
