Grandmother found guilty of child neglect

From NBC12 News

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - A jury hands down a two year sentence in the case of a Richmond woman charged in connection with the shooting death of her granddaughter.

After a two day trial, a jury found 42-year-old Judy Wright guilty of felony child neglect.

Wright's ten-year-old son shot and killed her five-year-old granddaughter last year.

Prosecutors say Wright left the children at home where the young boy found the weapon in a gym bag.

Wright spoke with NBC12 shortly after being sentenced Friday evening.

"I was innocent,” said wright. “The only thing I did was went to work to provide for my family. It's okay, God has it. It's in God's hands now.”

Wright is out on bond pending formal sentencing by the court which will take place in January.
