Dentists buying back candy to send to troops

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Local dentists' are buying back halloween candy -- to promote two worthy causes.

Kids were selling their candy -- one pound for one dollar -- at Boyle Dentistry in Mechanicsville yesterday.

All of the sweet treats will be shipped to U.S. troops serving overseas.

Of course, dental professionals are also looking out for the health of those children as well.

"That's the underlying cause for it. Absolutely. That we can help them, uhh, not eat all that candy and hopefully prevent some dental carries, if we can, or disease," said Jay Boyle of Boyle Dentistry.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports other local dentists will buy back candy in the day ahead.

The Children's Dentistry of Virginia in Midlothian is on board from 4 to 6 today.

Rusnak Family Dentistry on East Parham is buying back candy from 5 to 7 p-m.

And Dr. John J. Andre in Glen Allen is exchanging cash for candy between 9 and 5 all week.
