Goochland schools will have to cut $3 million from next year's budget

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) - The superintendent for Goochland County School District said the budget for 2010-2011 school year will have to be reduced by $2.9 million.

The school district receives the majority of its funding from the county.  Since the county's revenue projections are down, the school district has been told to make some cuts.

Superintendent Dr. Linda Underwood said they will have to make reductions to staff, "We are looking at everything that is not mandated or required."

Dr. Underwood told employees on Wednesday about the challenges facing the school district.

The 2009-2010 school budget is $27 million.  The county has already asked the school district to reduce it by $950,000.
