RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond man is getting a mental health evaluation tonight, after some tense moments earlier this evening.

Streets were blocked off and people were ordered to stay in their homes, after the man barricaded himself inside his apartment. Police say they were called to the 3900 block of Cutshaw Avenue after neighbors called to complain.

A man was throwing items out of his home, as well as breaking windows and other items in the apartment. When police arrived, he refused to come out.

Officers, along with a SWAT team and negotiators moved in. After about three hours, the man finally came out with his hands up.

Richmond police say the man, who needs medication, is being treated at the VA hospital tonight. No word yet if any charges will be filed.
