McDonnell, Deeds gain endorsements this weekend

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor Tim Kaine was on the campaign trail this weekend -- hoping to help make Democrat Creigh Deeds his successor as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Kaine appeared at "Get out the Vote!" kick-offs in Henrico and Chesterfield yesterday.

Deeds did not attend the events. He was making similar appearances alongside US Senator Mark Warner in Lynchburg and Roanoke.

Tomorrow, it will be President Barack Obama joining Deeds at campaign events.

Deeds was endorsed yesterday by the Virginian-Pilot -- the major newspaper in Virginia Beach, which covers his opponent's home town.

Republican Bob McDonnell also picked up some major endorsements, including the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The paper says it chose McDonnell because of his transportation plan and his strong leadership as attorney general.

For all you football fans, today in Richmond, legendary Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz will be headlining an Onward to Victory pigskin party in support of McDonnell's campaign.

It'll be tonight at 6:30 at the Willow Oaks Country Club on Forest Hill Avenue. Tickets are $25.
