RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A deer crashes into a local store causing thousands of dollars in damage.

It happened this morning in the 3800 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in South Richmond. An unexpected start to the workday for employees here at Southside Cares Thriftstore.

The animal busted through a plate glass window around 8 a.m. this morning to get inside the store.

Once inside the deer caused quite a bit of damage. The deer left holes in the wall, merchandise tossed about and lots of shattered glass. The store was closed when the deer got inside.

The manager says he got a call alerting him of what was going on and he thought it was a joke. But when he showed up here -- he encountered police and animal control who were trying to herd the deer out of the store.

After about 45 minutes the deer crashed through another glass window and took off.

While the clean up is underway, the store will be closed for the next couple of days.

The manager says this bizzare incident will cost him time and money, but luckily no one was hurt.
