HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Yet another public park is tagged with profane and hateful graffiti. This time, it's Three Lakes Park in Henrico.
The worst of it was saved for the bathrooms, targeting Jews and blacks, including a threat against the president, that police requested not be shown on television. But the hateful messages were everywhere. We walked all over the park, and saw them on the picnic tables, footbridges, and a county van. They made the popular Three Lakes Park into a crime scene that runners like Zack Crump never thought possible.
"It's frustrating, it's beautiful. Anyone who's ever run around the trails there, it's a beautiful facility," said Zach.
It's not lost on anyone, that three lakes became the third park in just over a month to be hit with this kind of graffiti. On October fourth: anti-Semitic and racist slurs were spray painted at Richmond's Forest Hill Park and the same thing was seen September eleventh at Bryan Park. Police are looking to see if this is all the work of the same people.
"Any crime that's similar in nature, the agencies routinely speak to one another to find any similarities that will connect the two crimes together," said Henrico Police Lt. Eric Owens.
This time, the vandals may have made a crucial mistake with their overnight graffiti run taking place right below the park's surveillance cameras. Police say their investigation goes on and cleaning crews are working to remove the mess. As a result, Three Lakes Park will be closed until at least some point tomorrow
"It's frustrating to think you can take god's creation and just mess it up like that, it's bothersome," said Zack.
