HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The crime spree in broad daylight targeted at least three homes in a high end community in Glen Allen. It happened in the "Rock Spring Estates" neighborhood on Wood-Brook Lane. One of the homes is on a dead-end street, far from a major highway.
The last thing Lynda Brice expected her two 9 year old twins to find when they came home today was a shattered back door and a ransacked home. Now she is wondering what, if anything, she can do to keep her home safe.
Lynda Brice never thought she would be a victim.
"We take every safety precaution you can possibly take," said Linda.
But when her family came home and found their glass back door smashed into pieces, it didn't take long to figure out that they had been hit.
"They just came in and were probably here and gone in 10 to 15 minutes," she said.
The thieves came in through the back door and even though they didn't take much, they seemed to be in search of something, and they left a big mess wherever they went.
From turned over beds and dresser drawers to ripped open kitchen cabinets and clean clothes tossed all over the home. Despite the destruction that was left in their wake, most of the home's valuable contents remain.
"I guess they were looking for electronics or jewelry or money that was easy and quick to pick up," she said.
So all they ended up taking was a couple of expensive video game systems, and one diamond ring. But while the financial loss may be small, the biggest loss may be the one thing that will be the most difficult to replace.
"So there is no safe, there is no feeling of security," Linda said.
Lynda Brice is already trying to figure out what she can do to make her home safe. She is considering installing an alarm system, but she fears that even that investment couldn't prevent a calculated crime like this that happened so quickly.
