Study shows number of children with autism even higher

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A new study shows the number of children with autism is higher than previously thought.

CDC researchers found that one percent of 3 to 17 year olds has been diagnosed with some form of autism.

The disorder can cause a wide range of symptoms -- including social and communication difficulties, and self-injurious behaviors.

Dr. Kathy Mathews from the Faison School for Autism in Richmond joined NBC12 to talk about this study.
