RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - After a fantastic weekend of high school football that saw an upset of the number one team in the Central Region, a huge comeback to determine "The Battle of Chester," and an assortment of amazing performances, it's time to roll out our nominees for "Play of the Week" -- two of which were submitted by viewers through our Send it to 12 link.
For our first play, we're heading out to Richmond county where Rappahannock's Deondre Garner finds a hole and breaks away for a 62-yard touchdown run against King and Queen on which it appears no one even got a hand on him.
The Raiders would go on to lose 30-29, but hey, that's a nice run!
Play number two comes from the "Battle of Chester." After trailing Thomas Dale 14-0 at the half, L.C. Bird's Anthony Harris takes off for a 40-yard touchdown after getting the block he needed to give the Skyhawks a 21-14 victory.
Thanks to Hector Siverio for submitting that clip.
Finally, we've got to go to Hermitage, who led Varina 7-6 with under a minute to play, when the Panthers' Derek Britt intercepts the Blue Devils' Hermon Norrell with :30 seconds left to seal the deal for Hermitage's 7-6 upset of the No. 1 team in the Central Region.
