Medical helicopter crashes in SC, three killed

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Three people are dead in Georgetown County after a Lifecare helicopter crashed Friday night.

Officials with Omniflight Helicopters say the helicopter, traveling from Charleston to Conway, crashed 63 miles into its flight along a wooded area of Whitehall Avenue in Georgetown County.

Officials say they lost contact with the helicopter around 11:18 p.m.

A search was initiated shortly after the aircraft failed to report to Omniflight's communication center.

All crew members on board, including a pilot, paramedic and flight nurse, were killed in the crash.

Officials have yet to release the name of those killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board and officials with the Federal Aviation Administration are en route to the scene for a full investigation.
