RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - This morning's rain didn't dampen spirits at Richmond's George Mason Elementary School, where students now have a new place to play.
In early June, someone set fire to the old playground. That's when W.E. Singleton stepped in. The Midlothian man donated $75,000 to rebuild. Today was the dedication for the new and improved space.
"Looking at it before we were very sad and now we're so excited because it is even better than before. The students have much more to play on and there's much more to do with the playground," said school principal Sandra Bynum.
Singelton donated the money in honor of his mother. She was a longtime employee of the Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation, with fond memories of the George Mason playground.
