PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Tonight, Petersburg police are trying to find the driver who hit a two year old boy and just took off!
Kristina Wason says her two year old son Xavier was actually pinned underneath the vehicle.
It happened in the 700 block of Texas Avenue. Tonight, he's doing just fine, but Wason worries it could happen to someone else's child.
2 year old Xavier Holmes is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to riding his big wheel. His mom, Kristina Wason, says he was doing just that when even bigger wheels crossed his path. It was just before 9:00 pm Monday when Wason says her neighbor saw a light colored cadillac with a black top back over her son on texas avenue. She says when her neighbor yelled at the driver to stop, the driver sped off.
"He was pinned underneath the car." said Wason.
Wason says a blister on Xavier's arm and scrapes on his back are from the hit and run.
"The witness said when he picked him up he was screaming like he had got shot." said Wason.
Little Xavier showed us the damage to his big wheel.
"Car did it." Xavier said.
Wason says she's been pushing for the city to place a sign on the street warning drivers kids are at play.
"What I need is the person that hit my son to come up or get caught and then get the sign up to." said Wason.
Petersburg police are looking for a light colored or white cadillac with a back top with partial plates 7526. Wason says the car has been seen in the neighborhood before. If you have information, call crime solvers at 861-1212.
