RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Virginia Department of Transportation confirmed today what NBC12 first reported last month.
The agency is facing a new budget shortfall of nearly $900 million over the next six years.
New estimates show the economy is hitting VDOT worse than expected.
At a meeting today, no specifics were given in terms of how VDOT will handle the shortfall, but all options are being discussed, including those that would impact highway maintenance, VDOT employees and everyday travel.
NBC12 will have further updates beginning at 5 p.m.
