HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The Henrico Police Animal Protection Unit received a call on Saturday advising that a dead skunk had been found in a yard in the 4900 block of Thicket Place in Varina.
When the officer arrived on scene the skunk was located in a yard with two dogs contained by an invisible fence. It was unknown if the dogs actually had any contact but contact was highly probable.
The skunk was submitted to the State Lab for testing and came back as positive for rabies this morning.
The dogs in question had valid rabies vaccinations. They will receive a booster and be quarantined at the owner's home for 45 days. There was no known human contact.
