DINWIDDIE, VA (NBC12) - A live military mortar shell that forced evacuations earlier Saturday in Dinwiddie -- is now in the hands of the Department of Defense.
The Korean war-era shell was found in a shed along Cox road around 11:00 a.m.
State Police evacuated the area including the Brothers Pizza restaurant.
Once the bomb squad confirmed the shell was live, the military was contacted.
Representatives from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station removed the ordnance just before 7:30 p.m.
