RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Remembrance cermonies are being held all across the Richmond metro-area. A ceremony in Byrd Park honored people who risk their lives to save others.
The bells at the Carillon played the national anthem as those attending remembered 9/11 victims and recognized emergency responders.
The City of Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities hosted today's program -- it was dedicated to Richmond's police, fire and emergency services departments, Richmond ambulance authority, and the red cross as part of the national day of service and remembrance.
The program started at 11 a.m. and included music and speeches by special guests including city council president Kathy Graziano.
NBC12 will have more on this story coming up this evening at 5:30 and will have reports from several people who attended this ceremony about how September 11 forever changed their lives.
