RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - If you're in the market for a new car, it may be a good idea to get to a dealership today.
The clock is ticking on the enormously successful "Cash for Clunkers" program.
It ends Monday night.
Because of the program's popularity, some dealerships are running low on inventory and some have complained of slow reimbursements from the government.
Still, the $3 billion program has generated nearly a half-million vehicle sales.
"It's interesting because even this late in the program, people are coming in wanting to know details 'cause they're just getting wind of this," said auto dealer Asher Panian.
The Cash for Clunkers program officially ends at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
But some dealers such as Auto-Nation Incorporated, have already stopped offering the rebates, saying they need to catch up on paperwork.
There are no plans to seek more money to extend the program.
