RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond Fire Department wants you to stay off the rope swings along the James River.
It is often a common scene at Tredegar near the railroad tracks. But rescuers say using a rope swing is extremely dangerous, especially this time of year when the water levels are low.
The ropes are on CSX property but city officials say if you take a swing, it's at your own risk.
"It's kind of hard to say it's CSX fault when they come here and cut the rope down and before they can get back to where they came from someone else has already put another one in place of it," said Richmond Fire Spokesperson Lt. Shawn Jones.
A man was seriously injured after he did a back flip off a swing Thursday afternoon. His went under water and never came back up. Friends found him and had to perform CPR.
No word on his condition tonight.
