Clinics offer back to school vaccinations and physicals for free

HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - With just a few weeks until school starts, free clinics are set up across the Metro Richmond area to get your kids the shots and physicals they need for school.

It's back to school time and with money tight these days, the Richmond Free Clinic Consortium is calling this - a community immunity.

"Everyone here is in the same boat," said Executive Coordinator of RFCC Dani Staylor. "Everyone here knows that sometimes you need help and that's what we're here for. That's what free clinics are for."

This year they've responded to the bad economy.

"Free clinics have seen a massive increase in our patient base," said Dani.

So they've expanded the number of free clinics offering physicals to any school aged kid and vaccinations for kids in grades K through 6, in this big one-day event all over Richmond and in Goochland.

To be eligible, you must be uninsured or on Medicaid.

When you come down to one of these clinics tomorrow, make sure you are with your child. Also, if you have any vaccination records, whether they are official or not, they are a big help to make sure the people working at the clinics know what your child needs.

Without these required vaccinations, your child will not be able to start school on time. That means Doctor Dan Jannuzzi expects a big crowd.

"A lot of excited children who are heading back to school and probably a lot of relieved parents that they are going to be able to get access to care for their family," said Dr. Dan Jannuzzi.

Relief many need, with just a few days before school starts up again.

Here is the list of free clinics to be offered on Friday:

CrossOver Ministry:

108 Cowardin Ave and 8600 Quioccasin Road Suite 105 from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM.

CrossOver Ministry:

2610 Sherbourne Road from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM for physicals only.

Center for High Blood Pressure:

1200 West Cary Street from 9 AM - 3 PM for vaccinations only. They are not offering the MMR shots and people attending need to bring immunization records.

Why did Cracker Barrel fire Brad's wife? It's really no one's business, other than Brad's and his wife's, but that hasn't stopped people around the world from demanding answers after a Harrison County, IN, man publicly asked the restaurant chain why his wife Nanette was let go from her job at the Cracker Barrel in Corydon.
