RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor Tim Kaine is making a pre-emptive strike to slow the spread of swine flu. Swine flu will get worse before it gets better, and with that in mind the governor has directed the state health department to expand it's H1N1 call center.
The call center's increased operations coincide with the opening of public schools across the state this month. The CDC has predicted the numbers of those infected with swine flu will only increase when kids return to the close confines of the classroom.
The governor said knowledge is the key to reducing the spread and the expansion of the call center will work to that end:
"Even people who don't have H1N1, if they call we can give them good advice. Get the flu vaccine if you're young, if you're old, if you have any illnesses, you'll be better off this year." said Kaine.
If you'd like to call the hotline, the toll free number is 1-877-275-8343. The line is open during regular state business hours.
