The burglary happened early Sunday morning at Taboo on West Broad Street. The man on the tape has not been caught. Police hope you'll recognize him. Repairs have been made and security upgrades are in the works.
Taboo's owner says she's put other adult stores on notice that this crook may now be looking to turn a profit. Quick and calculated, but not very observant. Too busy stealing - the thief didn't notice big brother.
"It's also strange to me that he went through all of that work and didn't wear a mask or gloves or anything lucky for us he wasn't so smart," said Alison Miller, owner of Taboo.
This is the store's second burglary in four years. Only this time, Miller says the crook managed to bypass the alarm and motion sensors. Miller says he picked the utility room door lock at the back of the building.
"He broke in through that vent which put him inside the hallway," said Miller.
From there - he broke through a wall. Once inside, he loaded up on porn.
"He got our computer with our entire operating system on it, he got our stereo and he got about $130,000 to $150,000 worth of DVD's," said Miller.
15 DVD books were stolen from a locked cabinet.A stack of roughly four thousand DVD cases are piled high in the store's office. Staff had to pull the cases from the store shelves. Miller is now replenishing her stock and investing in security upgrades.
"I guess what he was thinking he saw something that he could take that he could profit from it blows my mind that somebody would do that break into somebody's property and take something from them," said Miller.
Miller says she and her staff have never seen the man before. If you recognized him from the surveillance video, call Henrico Police or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
