HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico mom faces multiple charges, after police say she let her two year old wander out into the parking lot of an apartment complex, while she was sleeping inside.
This all happened at the Nottingham Green Apartments off Quiaccossin Road. 31 year old Louis Marie Billie has been charged with felony child neglect and trespassing.
Louise Billie was not even supposed to be anywhere near the Nottingham Green Apartments, so when the complex's management found her child wandering around vulnerable and unsupervised, they immediately called police. Derek Snead said that is not uncommon to find young people wandering around Nottingham Green Apartment Complex without supervision.
"That's questionable. I mean you see a lot of kids running around everywhere," said Derek Snead who lives at the apartment complex.
And indeed on Thursday night there were plenty of children outside of apartments throughout the complex. But what made this situation so different was that not only was Louise Marie Billie sound asleep when her two year old son slipped outside unattended, she wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.
"Whatever the reason was, she was banned and it was probably for a good reason," he said.
Police say Billie was asked not to come back to the property for a separate incident. She is now charged with felony child neglect for letting her kid wander off and trespassing for being on private property.
The incident will now force responsible parents like Snead to keep a closer eye on the neighborhood.
"Of course an issue like that will bring it to your attention," said Snead.
Police say Child Protective Services is investigating the incident. Meanwhile the mother has already been released from jail.
